The Stratosphere is our first disc mold. We learned a lot with this disc as we worked through the process, from 3D model, to metal mold, to plastic blending, adjusting the mold, and running discs. Did it turn out perfectly? There are things we learned through trial and error and the result may not be on par with disc makers who have been making discs for decades. But we’re still happy with the results and the learning experience on our first disc. After trimming the mold to get the correct weights, the outside rim turned out sharper than we originally wanted. But the flight is great– very close to what we were looking for. The plastic blend ended up feeling great and the manufacturing by our local partner, Freeform Polymers, provided some excellent swirly effects. The PDGA approved the Stratosphere on December 30, 2021, right at the end of the year that we spent working on the disc from conception to production.
